Student knowledge exchange: addressing barriers for underrepresented groups

Engaging students from traditionally underrepresented groups in knowledge exchange is an important part of widening participation; ensuring that individuals from all backgrounds are able to exploit fully the opportunities afforded by higher education. This podcast explores the role of student-focused knowledge exchange, how it links to broader equality, diversity and inclusion agendas, and provides insights on what works well in addressing barriers to participation.

Joining SQW Director, Joe Duggett are Jane Meagher and Izzy Hampton. Drawing on their recent work for the Office for Students to evaluate the Student Engagement in Knowledge Exchange Competition, and other recent work in this space, the podcast covers issues including:

  • the barriers and issues faced by individuals from widening participation and traditionally underrepresented backgrounds in engaging in knowledge exchange activities
  • the types of knowledge exchange activities progressed by universities, and how they have been designed and adapted to engage individuals from these groups
  • key perspectives on what has worked well and why, and which can inform on-going activity in this important area.
