Sergei is an Associate Director at SQW, and leads SQW’s econometrics work and its management and analysis of ONS datasets. Sergei is an ONS accredited researcher, has a PhD in Economics and specialises in economic modelling and statistical analysis. Prior to joining SQW in 2019 Sergei lectured in Economics at the University of Edinburgh. As a former academic, he combines his expertise in theory with the use of datasets to inform high quality evaluation studies, economic assessments and value for money analyses.

Sergei works across different policy areas including innovation, labour markets, and education and young people. Sergei has led numerous econometric analyses for a range of evaluations, with recent examples including British Patient Capital for the British Business Bank, Innovation Loans for Innovate UK, the Sharing in Growth evaluation for BEIS, and Annual Evaluations of the Work and Health programme for the Greater Manchester Combined Authority. He also managed a number of SQW research projects and evaluations himself, including the study of board diversity and effectiveness in FTSE 350 companies for the Financial Reporting Council, and evaluations of mentoring programmes aimed at improving SME’s productivity through Management and Leadership practices for Be the Business.
