BFI Research & Statistics Fund Evaluation
The UK screen sector is significant in scale and in its cultural, economic and social impacts. It includes film, high-end television, visual effects, animation and video games. In 2019 production and development supported by the UK screen sector tax reliefs[1] totalled £5.11 billion and generated tax-relief supported impacts of £10.23 billion in Gross Value Added (GVA) and just over 156,000 full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs.[2]
Investments of this scale need reliable, robust and regular data. The BFI has a dedicated National Lottery-funded Research and Statistics Fund (the “Fund”). This £3m Fund commissions and delivers independent, publicly available evidence for the UK screen sector.
SQW has been commissioned to undertake an evaluation of the Research and Statistics Fund which will assess the overall impacts of the Fund, including how it contributes and adds value to the UK screen sector ecosystem. Our approach will involve developing a logic model, and then testing and evidencing this through interviews and data collation and analysis to understand the scale and nature of the Fund’s effects.
