Wellbeing and Housing for Older People
SQW have been appointed by Homes England to better understand the wellbeing impacts associated with the provision of homes that meet the needs of older people.
This is particularly timely given the recent development of HM Treasury’s Green Book Supplementary Guidance on Wellbeing, and the UK’s increasing ageing population, with multifaceted implications for policy and service provision.
SQW will be drawing and building on the existing evidence base to value the wellbeing and fiscal impacts associated with housing for older people. We will be developing a wellbeing framework for use by Homes England, undertaking primary research with older people to understand the wellbeing and fiscal benefits associated with older people’s housing, and developing metrics that can be used to support business cases for this type of housing development.
It is expected that the outputs of the research will lead to a better understanding of how the provision of housing for older people can lead to better wellbeing outcomes for those who occupy the housing, and how this can contribute towards reducing the burden on health and social care services. SQW will be working closely with Homes England, Qa Research and the What Works Centre for Wellbeing to deliver this research.
The study is expected to run until December 2023. For further details, please contact Lauren Roberts, SQW Director, via lroberts@sqw.co.uk or Stuart Wells, SQW Project Manager via swells@sqw.co.uk
