Oxfordshire Economic Strategy Refresh

Client: Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership

The Oxfordshire economy is home to world leading science, innovation, technology and a wide variety of R&D clusters. It is one of the UK's most dynamic economies, however it still faces many of the challenges faced by the rest of the UK, including a global security crisis, high cost of living and an unstable political landscape.

To prepare Oxfordshire's economy for the future, SQW was commissioned to develop a Strategic Economic Plan that would focus on the people and places within Oxfordshire. We undertook an Independent Economic Review of Oxfordshire's economy, which included leading the development of four deep-dives into particular areas of the economy (foundational economy, net-zero, innovation and diffusion, and progression/inclusive growth) where there were opportunities and/or threats to the future of Oxfordshire’s economy. SQW led these, with the support of Oxford Brookes University and glass.ai, who undertook bespoke web-crawling activity to better understand the economy.

Following this evidence baseline, we developed a Strategic Economic Plan that responded to Oxfordshire's challenges, alongside an action plan that would bring together key stakeholders to deliver the change needed in Oxfordshire to address its challenges. The Strategic Economic Plan and its accompanying evidence base is available to download here.
